2016 Charles Young Award

Three UCLA students have been honored with the 2016 Charles E. Junge Humanitarian Awards für ihr großes Engagement zum öffentlichen Dienst. Ethan Haik, a second-year neuroscience student was honored for his role in creating the Bruin Science Fair, an outreach program that helps foster a love of science in students at two under-resourced middle schools in Los Angeles. Minali Mohindra, a fourth-year neuroscience student, was recognized for her work with the Pediatric AIDS Coalition (PAC), an organization she has volunteered with since fall 2012. Und Jimmy Zheng, a fourth-year biology student, was recognized for creating Street Outreach, an extension of UCLA’s Mobile Clinic Project that has operated weekly in the area of Sycamore Avenue and Romaine Street in West Hollywood for the past 16 Jahr.

The Young Humanitarian Award, gegründet von der UCLA in 1986 als jährlichen Tribut zu erkennen und zu fördern Projekte, die sich Gemeinden’ soziale Bedürfnisse, is one of the most prestigious honors given to UCLA students.

George Lucas ’66 and his wife, Mellody Hobson, received the 2016 Ambassador for Humanity Award of USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education. Presented to the couple by USC trustee and USC Shoah Foundation founder Steven Spielberg, on Dec. 8 in Los Angeles, the awards recognize the couple’s long-standing commitment to humanitarian efforts and education.

The Ambassador for Humanity Award is reserved for individuals who embody the institute’s values and mission to promote tolerance and mutual respect. The husband and wife have been longtime supporters of the institute, as well as advocates of children’s education.
