Angelica Sylvia Castaneda

The David Chow Humanitarian 2022 Award

Angelica entered the organization Arts Mentorship Program in her senior year of high school, subsequently working over the course of several years to develop her skills in creative writing and more. In 2017, Angelica transitioned from being a program participant in the mentorship program to then becoming a part of the staff as the Editor-in-Chief of our Art Block Zine where she has helped manage the publication, social media presence for the publication, and a small team of 2 associate editors. Beginning in 2019, Angelica then was promoted to Program Assistant, and now helps with multiple aspects of our organization, including instructing her own cohort of mentees, administrative support, and the management of our organization's full social media presence. Angelica's enthusiasm for the arts and her commitment to growing as a working artist make her uniquely suited for teaching and empowering others through the arts. As a practicing artist herself, she clearly understands the challenges artists encounter in the development of a career, and with our support, she has learned to harness a variety of skills to her benefit as a young leader in our creative community.
