Janeen Holmes

The David Chow Humanitarian 2023 Award

As CEO of the My Stuff Bags Foundation, Janeen leads and manages the organizational structure of the My Stuff Bags Program. This Program began as a response to a cry for help from the very people who rescue and care for abused, neglected, abandoned, and homeless children. Caregivers describe children arriving in just a dirty t-shirt and with nothing of their own. With rescuing agencies lacking the resources to consistently provide any basic childhood necessities beyond food and safe shelter, Janeen created the My Stuff Bags Program to address this unmet need. My Stuff Bags are individual duffels of new belongings which provide comforts and necessities to children entering foster care and crisis shelters with no possessions. Each individual age and gender appropriate My Stuff Bag is filled by volunteers with new donated items such as: toys, toiletries, games, books, school supplies, clothing, a stuffed animal and a blanket, often handmade. The Bags are provided to rescuing agencies (carefully vetted “Partner Agencies”) across the United States, free of charge. Due to overwhelming testimonial support from Partner Agencies receiving the Bags, the children receive tangible proof that many people care about them as they experience a difficult time in their life.
